Canon's widest rectilinear zoom ever made, covering an extreme 11-24mm on full-frame.

The Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM was released in 2015 as Canon's widest rectilinear zoom for full-frame EOS bodies, achieving 11mm — a focal length that had not previously been available in a full-frame zoom with controlled linear distortion. The protruding bulbous front element means there is no standard filter thread — screw-in filters cannot be attached, limiting ND and polarising filter use to drop-in rear filter systems. L-series dust and moisture sealing is built in throughout the body.

The optical design uses 16 elements in 11 groups. Nine circular aperture blades produce smooth out-of-focus rendering. There is no standard filter thread — the protruding front element design does not accommodate screw-in filters. At 1,180g the lens is substantial, reflecting the complex optical formula required for 11mm rectilinear correction. Minimum focus distance of 0.28m at 24mm enables close foreground placement with ultra-wide background context. Constant f/4 aperture is maintained across the full 11-24mm range. L-series dust and moisture sealing is built in.

The 11mm angle of view — approximately 117° diagonal — provides dramatic architectural, interior, and environmental perspective not achievable with any shorter full-frame zoom. For real estate, architectural interiors, and immersive landscape photography where the widest available rectilinear field of view is the requirement, the 11-24mm is the reference choice. The absence of a filter thread is the primary practical constraint for landscape photographers who rely on circular polarisers or large-format ND filters.

On the used market the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM is a premium specialist lens with limited but stable used availability. Condition checks: L-series sealing at the zoom barrel, front element for scratches or impact damage — it is fully exposed without filter protection — and ring USM AF response. Drop-in rear filter systems are available as accessories for ND and colour filter use. The Canon RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM is the native RF equivalent for EOS R users. Compatible with all Canon EOS DSLR bodies and via EF-RF adapter on EOS R bodies.
