The Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro was released approximately 1987 as an early EF-mount compact macro prime for Canon EF full-frame. Nine elements in 8 groups. Six aperture blades. 52mm filter thread. At approximately 280g. 0.23m MFD at 1:2 maximum magnification. Screwdrive autofocus.

The Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro provides 1:2 (half-life-size) maximum magnification natively — to reach 1:1 life-size, the optional Life Size Converter EF (LA-DC52D) is required. The f/2.5 maximum aperture is one-third stop slower than f/2.8 but provides a compact, lightweight macro at 52mm filter thread. The 50mm perspective on full-frame provides natural foreground compression for macro subjects.
