Part of Canon's late-1990s IXUS APS family, the IXUS Z65 was a compact metal-bodied zoom camera built for the Advanced Photo System, sold alongside autofocus and fixed-focus siblings as Canon pushed APS as a simpler alternative to 35mm film.

It uses the IX240 APS film cartridge and pairs Ai-AF autofocus with a 24-65mm f/4.5-8 zoom lens, giving roughly 3x reach. ISO sensitivity via DX coding spans 25 to 10,000, minimum focus is 0.45m, a single CR2 lithium battery provides power, and the body measures a pocketable 95 x 63 x 34mm at 176g.

The slim metal shell and mid-range zoom sat it between the fixed-focus IXUS FF models and longer-reaching Z-series siblings, offering more framing flexibility without the bulk of a superzoom compact. APS's mid-roll switching and print-format selection were its main draw over 35mm rivals.
