Canon's enthusiast compact with 1/1.7-inch sensor — one of the early advanced G-series cameras.

The Canon PowerShot G9 was released in 2007 as a premium compact with a 12.1MP 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor and a 6× zoom lens covering 35-210mm equivalent. RAW recording support. Maximum video: 1024×768 at 15fps — not HD. At approximately 370g with battery and card.

12.1MP 1/1.7-inch CCD. Fixed 35-210mm equivalent zoom (6×), f/2.8 (wide) to f/4.8 (tele). Video: 1024×768 at 15fps maximum — not HD. RAW (CR2) recording. Optical Image Stabilizer. ~370g with battery. DIGIC III processor. Fixed zoom — no interchangeable mount.

The G9 returned RAW recording to the G-series after the G7 dropped it: RAW support for a compact was a differentiator in 2007 targeting advanced photographers. The 12.1MP resolution exceeded the G7's 10MP. The video capability is limited to 1024×768/15fps — significantly below HD, as consumer compact HD video was not widespread until 2008-2010.

On the used market the Canon PowerShot G9 is very affordable as a vintage RAW-capable premium compact. Condition checks: CCD sensor for hot pixels, zoom mechanism smoothness, IS engagement, battery health. 1024×768 video only — not HD. Fixed 35-210mm zoom; no interchangeable mount.
