Contax's well-regarded premium 35mm compact — Carl Zeiss Sonnar 38mm f/2.8 T* with titanium body.

The Contax T2 was released in 1990 as a premium 35mm film compact, featuring a Carl Zeiss T* Sonnar 38mm f/2.8 lens (5 elements in 4 groups) in a titanium-clad body. Aperture-priority AE and programmed auto. Shutter 1s-1/500s plus Bulb. At 295g without battery (CR123A). Fixed 38mm lens; no interchangeable mount.

DX coding (ISO 25–5000; non-DX defaults to ISO 100). 295g without battery (CR123A). Fixed 38mm lens; no interchangeable mount.

The Contax T2's Zeiss T* Sonnar design and titanium body made it the definitive luxury 35mm compact in its era: the T* coating reduces internal reflections for high-contrast rendering, and the Sonnar formula provides characteristically smooth background rendition. The 38mm perspective is slightly longer than 35mm alternatives — a considered choice for the Contax T series design. The T2 became an enduring film photography status object.

On the used market the Contax T2 is a sought collector and user compact, commanding significant premiums. Condition checks: shutter function at all speeds, lens element for fungus or haze (common in humid storage), rangefinder alignment if present, CR123A battery fresh for testing.
