The Fujifilm XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR was released in 2021 as the weather-resistant update to the original XF 27mm f/2.8 (2013), adding weather sealing and an aperture ring while maintaining the pancake form factor. The 27mm focal length provides a 41mm full-frame equivalent — a near-standard perspective slightly tighter than 35mm. At 84g it is among the lightest Fujifilm X-mount lenses and enables the most compact possible X-series carrying configuration. The 39mm filter thread is the same diameter as Leica M-mount screw-in filters.

The optical design uses 7 elements in 5 groups. Seven rounded aperture blades produce smooth bokeh at f/2.8. The 39mm filter thread requires a dedicated filter set — 39mm is uncommon in most standard filter collections and step-up rings to 43mm or 46mm are advisable. Weather sealing extends the working envelope for outdoor and light rain use when paired with a sealed X-series body. The aperture ring provides direct manual aperture adjustment.

On the used market the XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR is available at moderate prices. The original XF 27mm f/2.8 (non-WR) is available at lower prices without weather sealing or aperture ring — the WR version is the recommended choice for outdoor photographers.
