Kodak Instamatic 25 — basic 1960s cartridge-load camera for 126 film

The Kodak Instamatic 25 was a basic model in Kodak's Instamatic range, the cartridge-film system launched in 1963 that made snapshot photography accessible by removing the need to thread film manually.

It uses drop-in 126 film cartridges, has a simple fixed-focus lens, a single shutter speed, and a built-in flashcube socket on the top plate for indoor and evening shots. There is no rangefinder, meter, or focus adjustment; framing is through a small direct optical viewfinder.

As one of the entry-level Instamatic models, the 25 offered fewer features than mid-range siblings, trading flexibility for a lower price and true point-and-shoot simplicity aimed at first-time users.

126 cartridge film is now discontinued and only available from limited specialist stock, so surviving Instamatic 25 units are mostly bought as collectibles or display pieces. Check the flashcube contacts, film door catch, and that the shutter still fires cleanly.
