Leica's classic M rangefinder — the M4-P with 28-135mm framelines and updated viewfinder.

The Leica M4-P was released in 1981 as the first Leica M body to include a built-in hot shoe for accessory flash mounting, while retaining the mechanical reliability of the M4 series. The 'P' designation indicated enhanced features for press and professional photography. Leica M mount.

35mm film rangefinder. Mechanical cloth focal-plane shutter: 1/1000s to 1s plus Bulb. Hot shoe. Leica M mount. Multi-exposure lever. At approximately 540g. Film transport and rewind. Compatible with all Leica M lenses.

The hot shoe was the M4-P's primary addition over the M4: Leica M bodies before the M4-P required accessory flash connections via the synch port only. The multi-exposure capability allowed deliberate double exposures in-camera. The M4-P was well-regarded for build quality and mechanical precision consistent with the M4 lineage.

On the used market the Leica M4-P is a collectible 35mm film rangefinder. Condition checks: shutter curtain integrity (all speeds including 1/1000s), rangefinder patch brightness and alignment, hot shoe contacts, film transport mechanism, leatherette condition.
