Leica's premium full-frame fixed-lens compact with 47.3MP sensor, Summilux 28mm f/1.7, and weather sealing.

The Leica Q2 was released in April 2019 as the successor to the Q, upgrading the sensor from 24MP to 47.3MP full-frame BSI CMOS and adding IP52 dust and moisture resistance. The fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH lens and full-frame sensor combination define the camera's identity. At 718g the Q2 is relatively compact for a full-frame fixed-lens camera with Summilux optical quality. BP-SCL4 battery; approximately 370 shots per charge.

The 47.3MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor with Maestro III processor provides high resolution for a fixed-lens compact. The fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH delivers Leica optical quality at the 28mm field of view. 4K/30fps video is available. IP52 weather sealing resists dust and light moisture. Battery life approximately 370 shots using the BP-SCL4. Body weight approximately 718g with battery and card.

The Q2's 47.3MP sensor enables in-camera digital crop zooms — 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm equivalent frames — while retaining useful resolution: a 35mm crop from 47.3MP leaves approximately 30MP, and a 50mm crop leaves approximately 15MP. This effectively provides multiple focal lengths from the fixed 28mm lens without optical zoom degradation. The Summilux f/1.7 maximum aperture on full-frame provides the fastest 28mm equivalent in any compact camera. IP52 sealing makes the Q2 practical for outdoor use in light rain.
