Minolta's classic MD normal prime — the standard 50mm f/1.7 bundled with millions of MD-mount SLRs.

The Minolta MD 50mm f/1.7 is a manual-focus fast standard prime for Minolta MD/MC mount 35mm film cameras. Six elements in 5 groups. Six aperture blades. 49mm filter thread. At approximately 185g. 0.45m MFD.

The MD 50mm f/1.7 was the standard kit prime for Minolta X-700, X-570, XD-series, and SRT-series film cameras: the slightly faster f/1.7 maximum aperture versus the more common f/1.8 was Minolta's standard offering. The MD mount coupling transmits aperture information to compatible Minolta bodies. Compatible via adapter with Sony A-mount and, with full adapter, with modern mirrorless systems.

On the used market the Minolta MD 50mm f/1.7 is very affordable as a vintage manual-focus standard prime. Condition checks: focus helicoid smoothness, 49mm front element for marks, aperture blades for oil. Manual focus only. Minolta MD mount.
