Minolta Riva Zoom 125 — 35mm film compact with 38-125mm autofocus zoom, released around 2000

The Minolta Riva Zoom 125 is a 35mm film compact from around 2000, near the top of Minolta's Riva Zoom line of consumer point-and-shoots (sold as the Freedom Zoom 125 in North America). It extended the series' reach beyond the shorter Riva Zoom 90 and 105 models.

It uses standard 35mm film with a 38-125mm autofocus zoom lens, automatic exposure and film loading, a built-in flash with red-eye reduction, DX-coded film-speed detection, and a small LCD panel for frame count and flash mode. Controls are limited to a shutter button, zoom rocker and flash switch.

The longer 125mm end gives more reach for portraits and candid shots than shorter Riva Zoom models, at the cost of a slower maximum aperture and softer results at full zoom. Like the rest of the series it is fully automatic, with no manual exposure override, built for convenience over control.

Riva Zoom 125 bodies are common and cheap secondhand, generally bought by casual film shooters rather than collectors. Before buying, check the battery compartment for corrosion, confirm the zoom racks smoothly, test the flash, and inspect the light seals and viewfinder for age damage.
