The Nikon AF Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D was released approximately 1994 as a fast wide prime for Nikon F-mount full-frame with D-type distance encoding. Twelve elements in 9 groups. Seven aperture blades. 62mm filter thread. At approximately 270g. 0.25m MFD. D-type screwdrive autofocus.

The D-type designation provides subject distance information to compatible Nikon bodies for 3D matrix metering and advanced TTL flash. The 20mm f/2.8 perspective provides an ultra-wide field of view with maximum aperture wider than kit lenses — suitable for interiors, architecture, and astrophotography on Nikon F bodies. The 0.25m MFD enables proximity to foreground subjects.
