Nikon's full-frame standard zoom workhorse, a constant f/4 alternative to the pro 24-70mm f/2.8.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR was released in 2010 as Nikon's standard walkaround zoom for full-frame FX bodies, offering a constant f/4 aperture across the 24-120mm range. The 5x zoom ratio covers wide environmental to short-telephoto territory, and built-in VR provides stabilisation for handheld use. It is a common kit lens for the D750 and D800 bodies it was frequently bundled with, and widely used for travel and event photography in the Nikon F ecosystem.

The optical design uses 17 elements in 13 groups, including three ED elements and three aspherical elements. The 77mm filter thread is the professional standard size, compatible with most established filter collections for Nikon FX glass. At approximately 710g the lens is substantial for a walkaround standard zoom — requiring deliberate carry planning for extended sessions. Minimum focus distance is 0.45m throughout the zoom range, enabling environmental close-up and portrait work at any focal length. VR provides approximately 4 stops of shake compensation, effective for static subjects handheld. The AF-S Silent Wave Motor is fast and silent with full-time manual focus override.
