Nikon's professional 24mm f/1.4 wide-angle prime — Nano Crystal coated with outstanding low-light capability.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G ED was released in 2010 as the professional wide-angle prime for Nikon F-mount full-frame, providing f/1.4 maximum aperture at 24mm with Nano Crystal Coat. At 620g and 77mm filter thread it reflects the 12-element formula. SWM provides fast, quiet AF. Two ED elements control chromatic aberration wide-open at f/1.4. The G designation indicates no aperture ring.

The optical design uses 12 elements in 10 groups including 2 ED and 2 aspherical elements. Nine rounded aperture blades produce smooth bokeh. The 77mm filter thread is standard. At 620g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.25m. SWM provides fast, quiet AF with full-time manual override. Nano Crystal Coat for internal reflection control. f/1.4 maximum aperture. Full-frame coverage.

The 24mm f/1.4 on full-frame provides one of the widest fast-aperture perspectives available at f/1.4: at 24mm and f/1.4, astrophotography exposures of approximately 5-6 seconds are possible (Sunny 16 / NPF rule) before star trailing on full-frame. For environmental and documentary photography requiring 24mm in very low ambient light, f/1.4 provides approximately 1.5 stops more light than an f/2.8 wide equivalent. Nano Crystal Coat reduces internal reflections visible on backlit subjects.
