Nikon's electronic aperture-priority SLR — titanium shutter with LED metering and modern handling.

The Nikon FE2 was released approximately 1983 as a compact aperture-priority and manual 35mm film SLR with 1/4000s maximum shutter speed. Nikon F mount. At approximately 540g with battery. TTL centre-weighted metering.

The FE2 updated the FE with 1/4000s shutter speed — the fastest mechanical shutter of any camera at its 1983 introduction. Titanium shutter blades enabled the higher speed. The FE2 accepts all Nikon AI and Ai-S lenses with full metering. The compact all-metal body was popular for travel and reportage.

On the used market the Nikon FE2 is affordable as a compact Nikon film SLR. Condition checks: 1/4000s shutter accuracy, aperture-priority AE, shutter blades (titanium blades can develop pinhole damage), battery compartment. Nikon F mount.
