The Nikon Series E 50mm f/1.8 is the standard prime from Nikon's budget Series E line, introduced at the end of the 1970s alongside the compact EM body. It was made to a lower price than the Nikkor 50mm lenses but shared the F mount and Ai coupling, and it earned a reputation as a sharp, light everyday standard.

This is a manual-focus Nikon F lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8 and a fixed 50mm focal length, built with Ai-compatible aperture coupling for full-aperture metering. It is a compact double-Gauss standard operating with normal reflex viewing. Only verified figures are stated; construction details are omitted rather than guessed.

The Series E 50mm is known for good sharpness even wide open, tightening further on stopping down, with pleasant background rendering for a budget lens.
