Nikon's premium 5x standard zoom for Z-mount — constant f/4 from 24-120mm with S-line optics.

The Nikon Nikkor Z 24-120mm f/4 S was released in 2021 as the constant f/4 standard travel zoom for Nikon Z full-frame bodies. It relies on body IBIS for stabilisation — unlike the F-mount 24-120mm f/4G which had built-in VR, the Z-mount version has no optical VR in the lens. At 630g and 77mm filter thread it is manageable for a 5x constant f/4 full-frame zoom. Focus breathing compensation for video. Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat.

The optical design uses 16 elements in 13 groups including 3 ED, 1 aspherical ED, and 3 aspherical elements. Nine rounded aperture blades. The 77mm filter thread is standard. At 630g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.35m (maximum magnification 0.39x, consistent across the zoom range). STM autofocus. No optical VR — body IBIS only. Constant f/4 aperture. Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat dual anti-reflection coatings.

The 24-120mm f/4 S is Nikon Z's standard all-in-one travel zoom for full-frame bodies: the 5x range covers moderate wide, standard, and short telephoto in a single lens. Without optical VR, stabilisation depends entirely on body IBIS — all current Z-mount full-frame bodies have IBIS, so this is practical in use. Focus breathing compensation maintains consistent framing in video when adjusting focus, a differentiator over older F-mount zooms.
