Olympus C-990 Zoom — 2.1MP compact with 3x zoom, 2000, also sold as D-490

The C-990 Zoom was Olympus's compact digital camera from 2000, part of the Camedia range's push into zoom-equipped digital compacts for buyers wanting more reach than a fixed-lens model. It was also sold as the D-490.

It uses a 2.1-megapixel CCD sensor paired with a lens offering 3x optical zoom, an optical viewfinder alongside a rear LCD monitor for framing, and automatic exposure aimed at everyday snapshot use. Images are stored on a removable memory card, with power from AA-type batteries as was standard for Olympus compacts of the period.

Its zoom lens set it apart from simpler fixed-lens Camedia models sold at the same time, giving more framing flexibility for portraits and travel snapshots without stepping up to Olympus's pricier prosumer bridge cameras.

Now a low-resolution curiosity rather than a practical everyday camera, used examples are cheap. Buyers should check the memory card slot and battery door for cracked plastic, confirm the zoom lens extends smoothly, and test that the camera powers on and saves files.
