Olympus Camedia C-2 — basic 2MP fixed-lens digital compact from 2001, aka D-230

The Camedia C-2 was Olympus's rock-bottom entry into digital photography in the early 2000s, aimed at film compact owners taking their first step onto a memory card rather than a roll of film. It was also sold in some markets as the D-230.

It uses a small CCD sensor delivering roughly 2.0 megapixels through a simple, fixed lens rather than a zoom, keeping the design and price to an absolute minimum. A basic optical viewfinder and small monitor screen handle framing, with images written to a removable memory card and power drawn from ordinary AA-type batteries.

Where pricier Camedia siblings like the C-2Zoom offered adjustable focal length and more exposure control, the C-2 traded flexibility for simplicity and a low shelf price, making it a camera built to get first-time digital users shooting rather than to satisfy enthusiasts.

Today it is a low-resolution curiosity rather than a practical everyday shooter. Used buyers should check the memory card slot and battery door for cracked plastic, confirm the camera powers on and writes files, and expect images well below modern smartphone quality.
