Panasonic's first 1-inch bridge camera, combining a large sensor with a fast Leica zoom.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 was released in 2014 as one of the first consumer cameras to offer 4K video recording, combining a 20.1MP 1-inch BSI MOS sensor with a 16x optical zoom covering 25-400mm f/2.8-4.0 equivalent — a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit designation reflecting the Leica-certified optical formula. The 4K/30fps capability and fast f/2.8 wide aperture distinguished it at launch from typical 1-inch bridge cameras of the era. At 831g it is the heaviest in the consumer 1-inch bridge camera category.

The 20.1MP 1-inch BSI MOS sensor provides 4K video at up to 30fps and 1080p at up to 60fps. The 16x optical zoom covers 25-400mm equivalent at f/2.8-4.0 — the fast wide-end f/2.8 aperture provides subject separation and low-light capability at 25mm. Burst shooting runs at 7fps with AF tracking and 12fps without. The optical viewfinder provides 1,170k-dot electronic framing. Battery life approximately 360 shots using the DMW-BLC12, body weight approximately 831g with battery and card, single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot.

The FZ1000 positioned 4K video as a mainstream consumer feature: at launch it was among the most affordable cameras capable of internal 4K recording. The Leica-branded f/2.8-4.0 lens provides the best image quality per focal length of any fixed-zoom bridge camera in its era. The f/2.8 maximum at 25mm equivalent enables subject separation uncommon for bridge camera designs. The 400mm equivalent long end covers outdoor wildlife and event photography without a second lens.

On the used market the FZ1000 is affordable as a 4K-capable 1-inch bridge camera. Condition checks: 16x zoom mechanism smoothness, EVF for any uniformity issues, and DMW-BLC12 battery health. The FZ1000 II (2019) updated the design with a UHD 4K mode and Bluetooth. The Sony RX10 IV provides longer 25-600mm zoom with faster AF at a premium. Fixed lens; no interchangeable mount.
