Panasonic's compact rangefinder-style MFT camera with 20.3MP sensor, 5-axis IBIS, and tilting EVF.

The Panasonic Lumix DC-GX9 was released in 2018 as the mid-tier Micro Four Thirds mirrorless in the GX series, featuring a 20.3MP Live MOS sensor without optical low-pass filter, 5-axis IBIS up to 4-stop compensation, and a built-in 2.76-million-dot tilting electronic viewfinder — the built-in tilting EVF differentiates it from the GX80/GX85 which have no built-in EVF. 4K/30fps video. At approximately 450g with battery and card it is compact for an MFT body with built-in tilting EVF.

The 20.3MP MFT Live MOS sensor (no OLPF) pairs with Venus Engine 9. 5-axis IBIS provides up to 4-stop compensation; Dual I.S.2 with compatible Panasonic OIS lenses provides enhanced combined stabilisation. 4K/30fps video. Built-in 2.76M-dot tilting EVF — tilts upward for low-angle shooting. DMW-BLG10 battery. Body weight approximately 450g with battery and card (407g body only). Single SD card slot.

The GX9's built-in tilting EVF is its key differentiation from the GX80/GX85: the tilt mechanism enables waist-level or overhead composition without removing the EVF from the shooting position — useful for street photography and video where the camera is not held at eye level. The no-OLPF sensor provides marginally higher resolution detail at the cost of theoretical moiré risk on fine patterns. Dual I.S.2 with compatible Panasonic lenses provides the strongest combined stabilisation for handheld video.

On the used market the Panasonic GX9 is affordable as a compact MFT mirrorless with built-in tilting EVF.
