Pentax's first-generation 6x7 tele — the Super-Takumar 6x7 200mm f/4 for the 6x7 negative.

The Super-Takumar 6x7 200mm f/4 is a telephoto lens from the first generation of Pentax 6x7 glass, released with the camera in 1969. The Super-Takumar 6x7 badge marks it as an early example, predating the SMC Pentax 6x7 and SMC Pentax 67 rebrandings of the line's medium telephotos.

This is a manual-focus lens for the Pentax 67 bayonet mount, covering the 6x7 cm frame. It has a fixed 200mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/4. On the large negative a 200mm gives a moderate telephoto reach, useful for tighter framing, and this early version carries the multi-coating the Super-Takumar badge denotes.

The 200mm compresses perspective and pulls distant subjects closer on the 6x7 frame, suiting landscapes, environmental portraits and general longer-reach work. Early Takumar 6x7 telephotos carry a warm rendering, softening a touch wide open and sharpening as they stop down, which works well on the large negative.

On the used market this early telephoto is a reasonably available and affordable member of the line. Inspect for haze and internal fungus, check the front element for marks, and confirm the aperture blades are oil-free with a smooth helicoid. Watch for any thorium yellowing as with early Takumars, and note it adapts to mirrorless via a Pentax 67 adapter.
