Prinzflex — 135mm f/2.8 manual-focus telephoto prime lens, M42 and SLR mount fits

The Prinzflex 135mm f/2.8 is a manual-focus telephoto prime sold through Dixons under its Prinzflex house brand in the 1970s and 1980s. A 135mm f/2.8 was one of the most common secondary lenses of the era, giving Prinzflex SLR owners an affordable portrait and short-tele option beyond a kit lens.

Weight, filter thread and minimum focus figures were not consistently documented across the mount fits Dixons sold this lens in, so precise numbers are omitted rather than guessed. The lens has a manual focus throw, a click-stop aperture ring, and an all-metal, glass build typical of Japanese-made primes of the period.

At f/2.8 it offers a real speed advantage over the Prinzflex 135mm f/3.5, useful for subject separation and handheld shooting in dimmer light. Rendering follows the pattern of budget 1970s telephoto primes: reasonably sharp stopped down, softer wide open.

These primes are common secondhand, often found alongside Prinzflex SLR bodies at house clearances and online. Check the aperture blades move cleanly, the focus helicoid is not stiff, and the glass is free of haze or fungus.
