The Samsung NX 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 Power Zoom ED OIS arrived around 2013 as a compact, electronically driven kit zoom for the NX300-generation cameras, replacing bulkier manually zoomed kit lenses with a slim, retractable design suited to hybrid stills-and-video shooting.

Mounted natively on Samsung's APS-C NX bayonet, it spans a 24-75mm full-frame-equivalent range at f/3.5-5.6, using ED glass to control chromatic aberration and built-in optical image stabilization. Zooming is motorized rather than mechanical, controlled by a rocker or ring depending on mode.

The power-zoom mechanism gives smooth, consistent zoom speed useful for video pans, at the cost of a brief motor lag compared with a direct manual zoom ring. Its collapsed size keeps NX bodies notably slim for a standard zoom, favoring portability over handling feel.
