Sigma's compact 13.9x travel superzoom for Canon APS-C with OS stabilisation and HSM autofocus.

The Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM is the original 2009 version of Sigma's APS-C all-in-one superzoom, providing a 27-375mm full-frame equivalent range with OS (Optical Stabiliser) and HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor). It is a distinct product from the 2012 revised version (18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM) which added a closer macro mode and reduced the maximum aperture to f/4 at the long end. This original version uses 72mm filter thread and weighs 630g — heavier than the 2012 Macro revision.

The optical design uses 18 elements in 14 groups. Seven rounded aperture blades produce acceptable out-of-focus rendering. The 72mm filter thread is larger than on the 2012 revision. At 630g the lens is moderate for a 13.9x superzoom. Minimum focus distance of 0.45m. OS provides handheld stability. HSM motor provides fast, quiet AF. Variable aperture from f/3.5 at 18mm to f/6.3 at 250mm. DC designation confirms APS-C-only image circle.

The 27-375mm equivalent covers the full practical range for travel and everyday APS-C photography in a single lens. OS extends handheld telephoto capability. HSM enables quiet continuous tracking. For photographers who want a single APS-C lens covering wide through super-telephoto without carrying two lenses, the 18-250mm OS provides this at the cost of optical peak quality at the zoom extremes.
