Sony's updated flagship — successor to the A1 with improved sensor, AF, and processing technology.

The Sony Alpha A1 II was released in November 2024 as the successor to the A1, retaining the 50.1MP full-frame stacked BSI CMOS sensor while significantly improving IBIS from 5.5 to 8.5 stops at centre (7.0 stops at periphery). A dedicated AI processing unit enables 7-subject-type auto-selection autofocus. The LCD changes from tilt-only to fully articulating. 30fps burst (lossy RAW), 20fps (lossless RAW). 8K/30fps and 4K/120fps video.

50.1MP full-frame BSI stacked CMOS (same as A1). 30fps blackout-free (lossy compressed RAW); 20fps lossless compressed RAW. 8K/30fps 4:2:2 10-bit; 4K/120fps. 8.5-stop IBIS (centre); 7.0-stop (periphery). Dedicated AI processor for 7-subject-type auto AF selection. Fully articulating LCD. NP-FZ100 battery (~530 shots). Approximately 743g with battery and card.

The IBIS improvement from 5.5 to 8.5 stops is the A1 II's most significant practical upgrade over the A1: 3 additional stops of stabilisation substantially extends the handheld envelope for both stills and video. The fully articulating screen replaces the A1's tilt-only screen, enabling low-angle and overhead video framing. The AI subject detection adds auto subject type selection, reducing manual AF setting changes when shooting varied subjects.

On the used market the Sony A1 II is a November 2024 product with limited used availability. Condition checks: NP-FZ100 battery health (shared with A7 IV, A7R V, A9 III), fully articulating LCD hinge, dual card slot contacts. Compatible with all Sony FE-mount lenses.
