Sony's premium pocket zoom — the HX90V with EVF, 30x zoom, and GPS in a compact body.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX90V is a premium pocket superzoom from Sony's HX series, introduced in 2015. It combines a 30x optical zoom with a built-in electronic viewfinder and GPS in a very compact body, targeting enthusiast travel photographers.
The HX90V provides a 18.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor with a 30x optical zoom covering 24–720mm equivalent, a built-in popup electronic viewfinder, optical SteadyShot stabilisation, 1080p Full HD video, built-in GPS for geotagging, WiFi and NFC connectivity, and RAW file capture.
The built-in EVF is the defining feature that sets the HX90V apart from consumer pocket superzooms — it enables shooting in bright sunlight without relying entirely on the rear LCD. Combined with 30x optical zoom, GPS, and WiFi in a pocket-sized body, it offers unusually complete functionality for a compact superzoom. RAW capture enables post-processing control.
Test the popup EVF display quality and automatic activation. Verify GPS lock speed and accuracy. Test zoom operation across the full 30x range, particularly at maximum zoom. Check RAW capture. Verify WiFi and NFC pairing. Inspect stabilisation effectiveness at 720mm equivalent — the most demanding end of the zoom range.
