The Sony FE 400-800mm f/6.3-8 G OSS was released in February 2025 as Sony's longest-reach native FE zoom, covering 400-800mm with optical SteadyShot (OSS) stabilisation. G-series designation — not G Master. At 2,475g and 105mm filter thread it is a substantial super-telephoto zoom. 27 elements in 19 groups including 6 ED elements. Eleven circular aperture blades. Variable aperture from f/6.3 at 400mm to f/8 at 800mm.

The 400-800mm range covers the extreme end of wildlife telephoto focal lengths from a single zoom: 400mm for medium-distance birds in flight and mammals, 800mm for distant subjects requiring the maximum telephoto reach available in a native Sony FE zoom. The f/8 at 800mm is the practical lighting constraint — outdoor daylight is required for sufficient shutter speed at the extreme telephoto end. G-series (not GM) means no XA elements, which affects wide-open aberration correction relative to GM standards.
