The Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G (SEL50F25G) was released in 2021 as a compact full-frame standard prime for Sony FE-mount. Nine elements in 9 groups including ED and aspherical elements. Seven rounded aperture blades. 49mm filter thread. At 174g it is very lightweight. 0.35m MFD (AF mode). Dual linear motors.

The 174g weight at f/2.5 makes the FE 50mm f/2.5 G the most compact and lightest full-frame standard prime in the Sony FE lineup: lighter than the FE 50mm f/1.8 (~186g) and substantially lighter than the FE 50mm f/1.4 GM (~516g). The f/2.5 aperture is a considered trade — one stop slower than f/1.8 in a significantly smaller package. The G-series optical quality provides sharpness comparable to larger primes at f/2.5-f/8.
