Sony's updated 70-200mm f/4 — lighter and sharper than original with faster AF and close focus.

The Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS II (SEL70200G2) was released in 2022 as the second-generation constant f/4 telephoto zoom for Sony FE full-frame. Nineteen elements in 13 groups including advanced aspherical, aspherical, Super ED, and ED elements. Nine rounded aperture blades. 72mm filter thread. At 794g without tripod collar; 862g with collar. 0.26m MFD at 70mm; 0.42m at 200mm (1:2 macro).

The Mark II's defining upgrades over the original SEL70200G are 1:2 macro capability at 200mm, internal zoom (barrel length unchanged at all focal lengths), and 4 XD (extreme dynamic) linear AF motors for faster, more reliable AF tracking. The 1:2 magnification at 0.42m at 200mm makes the SEL70200G2 the only Sony G telephoto zoom with half-life-size macro capability. Weight decreased from 840g to 794g (without collar) versus the original.
