The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD (model A011) was released in 2013 as the first affordable 600mm zoom for full-frame cameras, establishing a new market category for budget super-telephoto zooms. VC (Vibration Compensation) and USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor provide handheld capability. At 1,951g (Nikon F version) it is a substantial lens — monopod support is advisable for extended sessions. Di designation confirms full-frame image circle.

The optical design uses 20 elements in 13 groups. Nine circular aperture blades. The 95mm filter thread is standard for super-telephoto zooms. At 1,951g the lens benefits from monopod or tripod support. Minimum focus distance of 2.7m. VC provides handheld stability. USD motor provides fast, quiet AF. Variable aperture from f/5 at 150mm to f/6.3 at 600mm. Di designation confirms full-frame image circle.

The 150-600mm range at the A011's 2013 launch price disrupted the super-telephoto zoom market: previously, 600mm zoom coverage required lenses costing 3-5x more. The f/5 at 150mm and f/6.3 at 600mm apertures are usable in good daylight for wildlife and sports. At 600mm/f/6.3, minimum shutter speeds of 1/600s or faster on full-frame are required for sharp handheld results even with VC. For photographers who need 600mm reach without the cost of L-series or Nikon telephoto primes, the A011 provides practical coverage.

On the used market the Tamron A011 is affordable for a 600mm zoom. The G2 version (model A022, 2016) provides improved VC performance and faster AF at a moderate premium. Condition checks: VC engagement, USD AF response, zoom ring smoothness across the full range, and front element for marks — a 95mm front filter requires a step-up ring for standard filter sizes.
