Tamron's premium super-telephoto zoom — the SP 150-600mm G2 with improved AF and stabilisation.

The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 is the second-generation version of Tamron's highly regarded super-telephoto zoom for full-frame Nikon DSLR bodies. The G2 revision addressed the original's AF tracking performance and added Tamron's FLEX ZOOM LOCK and compatibility with Tamron's 1.4x and 2x teleconverters.

The lens spans 150–600mm with a variable f/5–6.3 aperture, Tamron's VC (Vibration Compensation) stabilisation, USD ultrasonic autofocus drive, Di full-frame coverage, an updated G2 AF algorithm for improved subject tracking, a tripod collar with strap lug, and FLEX ZOOM LOCK for secure transport.

The G2 improvements over the original are operationally significant for wildlife photographers: the updated AF tracking is more reliable for erratic subjects, and TC compatibility at 150–600mm extends reach to an effective 840mm at f/9 with the 1.4x TC. It remains one of the most capable reach-to-price wildlife zoom lenses available for Nikon F-mount.

Test USD autofocus tracking accuracy at 600mm — this is the primary performance metric for wildlife use. Verify VC effectiveness across its stabilisation modes. Check FLEX ZOOM LOCK for smooth engage and release. Inspect the tripod collar rotation and locking. Test teleconverter compatibility if applicable. Examine the front element.
