Zeiss Batis portrait prime for Sony FE — outstanding optics with OLED focus distance display and weather sealing.

The ZEISS Batis 85mm f/1.8 is a native Sony FE-mount full-frame portrait prime released in 2015 as one of the first Batis lenses designed specifically for the Sony mirrorless system. A linear autofocus motor provides fast, quiet AF compatible with Sony's continuous tracking. The lens features an OLED display on the barrel showing real-time focus distance and depth of field. At 452g and 67mm filter thread it is moderately sized for an f/1.8 full-frame portrait prime. Weather sealing is built throughout.

The optical design uses 11 elements in 8 groups with T* anti-reflective coating. Nine aperture blades produce smooth bokeh. The 67mm filter thread is standard for mid-aperture full-frame primes. At 452g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.8m. A linear AF motor provides fast, quiet AF with full-time manual override. No optical stabilisation — Sony A7-series IBIS provides in-body compensation. The OLED barrel display shows real-time depth of field. f/1.8 maximum aperture.
