The Sony NEX-5R was released in 2012 as a compact Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless featuring a 16.1MP sensor and 1080p/60fps video. Built-in Wi-Fi for remote control and image transfer. App Store support (PlayMemories Camera Apps). At approximately 218g body only. Sony E mount.

The NEX-5R added Wi-Fi and the PlayMemories Camera Apps platform to the NEX-5N's core imaging capability: the app platform allowed adding software features including Time Lapse and multi-frame noise reduction post-purchase. At 218g the NEX-5R was very compact for an APS-C interchangeable lens camera in 2012. The tilting LCD enabled flexible framing.

On the used market the Sony NEX-5R is very affordable as a compact APS-C E-mount mirrorless. Condition checks: NP-FW50 battery health, tilting LCD hinge, sensor for dust. Compatible with all Sony E-mount APS-C and full-frame FE lenses.
